Mending the Sacred Hoop TA Project is pleased to announce our “Key Issues and Promising Practices” Webinar Series! Over the course of the next 8 months, MSH-TA will be offering webinar trainings on a variety of topics addressing violence against women in Native communities, including: Privacy and Confidentiality, Transitional Housing, Enforcing Tribal Protection Orders, and more.
Please join us in April for the first two webinars in the series:
Weaving Our Wisdom by Decolonizing Our Work: Tuesday April 6, 2021 | 11:00 am CDT. This online session will examine some of the current habits that impact our daily lives through our organizations, community structures, and the ways that we move through the world. We will explore how we have taken on harmful attitudes and behaviors that do not reflect our values as Native people. We will create space to reflect on how we can decolonize our own individual practices to make change for our communities by weaving together our collective wisdom to end gender-based violence. Presenters: Nicole Matthews, Executive Director and Guadalupe Lopez, Elevate|Uplift Program Coordinator, Minnesota Indian Women’s Sexual Assault Coalition.
Sexual Assault in Intimate Partner Relationships: Tuesday April 27, 2021 | 11:00 am CDT. More than 35% of women and 30% of men report sexual violence, physical violence or stalking by an intimate partner at some point in their lives. In American Indian/Alaska Native populations, that number nearly doubles. In this session, we will discuss the prevalence of intimate partner sexual assault, the challenges associated with reporting and the specific healthcare and safety needs that should be addressed for these individuals. Presented by: Jennifer Pierce-Weeks, RN, SANE-A, SANE-P, Chief Executive Officer for the International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN).
