Mending the Sacred Hoop works from a social change perspective to end violence against Native women and children while restoring the safety, sovereignty, and sacredness of Native women. We are  committed to strengthening the voice and vision of Native peoples to end violence against Native women. Our work to restore the status of Native women is organized through programming that provides technical assistance, grass roots organizing, advocating, organizing Native women through leadership strategies, and special projects dedicated to the safety of Native Women and their children. MENDING THE SACRED HOOP is a Native-led non-profit organization dedicated to addressing and ending  violence against Native women. We organize on issues surrounding violence against American Indian/Alaska Native women in our home community of Duluth, MN and throughout the State of Minnesota. Nationally we work with Tribes and Native communities that are addressing the issues of domestic and sexual violence, dating violence, sex trafficking and stalking in their communities. We provide training to strengthen Tribal and Native community responses to these crimes, including advocacy and systems responses, community understanding and awareness, engaging men in the work to end violence against women, and coordinating community responses that provide for women’s safety and uphold offender accountability.

The Executive Director provides core leadership for Mending the Sacred Hoop and all projects, including working with the board, staff, and key stakeholders/partners to develop and implement a mission-driven strategic plan. They cultivate and maintain relationships with all donors and institutional funders; and review and finalize fund development initiatives, grant applications, fundraising events, and annual appeals. Develop a long-term revenue plan that includes diverse strategies to create sustained funding. Personnel management, including developing a plan for recruitment of staff, hiring, on-boarding, while ensuring hiring, retention and training of staff are aligned with organizational values and goals. In communications, they ensure MSH has a visible and respected presence, including a comprehensive communications plan that keeps stakeholders engaged.
